At February the 11th, our partner Mr Dimitrios Skias from Intrasoft attended the first part of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) webinar titled “NGI FORWARD SALON DIGITAL SOVEREIGNTY IN eID-SOLUTIONS \u2013 SELF-SOVEREIGN,CENTRALISED OR PRIVATISED?”<\/strong>. The scope of the webinar concerned the Electronic identity (eID) as anenabler of the digital transformation. The presenters argued about the necessity of companies and citizens to have a convenient and secure way to identify themselves in the digital world. It was stated that the notion of eID does not only provide the digital-twin of the state-issued ID document but extends the information that it carries through the meta-data that accompany the electronic identity. The presenters introduced the German Administration use case which is to get the administration services digitized by developing eID services that enable citizens to securely release personal data to service providers. In addition, it was discussed that at the Union level, the eIDAS (electronic Identification, Authentication and trust Services) Regulation pursues the goal of generating an interoperable Europe-wide identity ecosystem from existing isolated solutions. The experts also underlined the necessity of the creation of a public certificate ecosystem. However, these goals also introduce some challenges that need to be resolved by the interested parties and authorities. The definition and utilization of privacy preserving via Self-Sovereign Identities (SSI) is a hard task to accomplish. There is a need for a common interoperability schema that will describe the properties and the data that will be carried by the eIDs. Furthermore, the lack of a proper legal framework around the concept of the eIDAS was  also identified. Either for self-sovereign, centralized or especially for privatised digital sovereignty adoptions, there is still substantial work to be done with respect to the human rights implications that eIDAS might introduce. Thus, human rights impact assessments should be carried out, in order to verify a smooth transition to the digital transformation. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
